Places to Go When Camping in Lancashire

As we’re based in Ormskirk, Lancashire – here at Abbey Farm Caravan Park – we thought we’d compile a list of places to go and see in the Lancashire area during your stay here. Whether it’s entertainment, nature or nightlife on your radar, we have something to suit every family member on your caravan holiday in Ormskirk.

Natural Sights:

Given its ideal location, nestled in-between the bustling cities of Manchester and Liverpool, Ormskirk is a rural gem that is also a stone’s throw away from beautiful Lancashire scenery.

WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre

Situated in nearby Burscough, Martin Mere is a must-visit for any family looking to get out into wildlife with the company of rare birds, including flamingos. Boasting some of the most exotic birds you could imagine in the middle of the North West, Martin Mere is a great way to get everyone outside with the interesting distraction of animals.

Turbary Woods Owl and Birds of Prey Sanctuary

We clearly love our feathered friends here in Lancashire, as we couldn’t mention Martin Mere without letting you know about Turbary Woods sanctuary. Whilst a bit further from the camp site – 15 miles north in Preston – we’d definitely recommend checking this place out. Hold the owls, marvel at the majestic birds of prey, enjoy something for everyone (except those with a fear of birds!).

Nights Out:

Manchester City Centre

We already discussed the wonders of neighbouring city Liverpool in a previous blog post, so let’s draw some attention to Manchester. The city that brought us The Smiths, Joy Division and Oasis – just to name a few – Manchester has an ever-thriving music scene that caters to every discerning listener.

Whether you fancy checking out some live jazz of a Saturday night at Matt & Phreds in the city’s hip ‘n’ happening Northern Quarter, or prefer some chilled-out cocktails at fancy Alchemist, Manchester caters to all. If you’re simply after a few pints to down with the football, the friendly city also offers more Wetherspoons pubs than you can shake a stick at.

All-Round Entertainment:

Trafford Centre

Sticking to the Manchester theme, situated five miles west of the city centre, The Trafford Centre has been a family favourite for the past twenty years since its opening in 1998. As the second largest shopping centre in the country – by retail size – The Trafford Centre offers a shopping experience that will sate every member of the family.

Once you’ve got your fill of retail therapy, there is ample entertainment and sustenance to be found in the centre’s food court, cinema and mini golf area. If that wasn’t enough, you can also find the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Sea Life Manchester, Namco Funscape, Aerial Extreme adventure course and Laser Quest within the complex.

Whatever you fancy getting up to in the Lancashire area, camping in Ormskirk is ideal for those looking to experience nature and nightlife without having to travel a great distance. Contact us at Abbey Farm to book in for camping in Lancashire.
